Barry M - Crystal Rock Collection A/W '19

*Press Sample*

Hello lovely people! I have something very exciting to share with you today as the ever amazing Barry M have released new polishes for the A/W season and sent them to me to swatch! They have released two new collections and four limited edition polishes which is all very exciting. I received all the polishes but I'm going to share the collections individually as otherwise it would be a very long post! First up we have the Crystal Rock collection which is a gorgeous set of seven texture polishes. Let's dive right in shall we?!

Barry M Crystal Rock Collection A/W 19

The first polish I swatched is this stunning teal named 'Fluorite' and I just knew right away it was going to be a favourite. The formula was great and it was super easy to apply, no flooding and no dragging. Opacity was also great and it is shown here in two coats. To show you all the accurate texture of these polishes I haven't used a topcoat at all!

'Pink Tourmaline' is a really pretty berry pink with gold scattered through it. I felt this had a slightly thinner formula than most of the others but it still applied really well. As you can see, these polishes dry down matte but still manage to look fab and sparkly! Shown below in two coats.

'White Moonstone' is a beautiful shimmery white polish which I just know will be perfect for some Christmas nails! This was pretty sheer on the first coat but built up nicely with the second. I still had a slight streak on one or two of my nails so I ended up adding a third thin coat. White polish is never a good look on me because I'm so pale so please just ignore that haha!

'Coral Sunstone' is a stunningly bright orangey-coral with gold scattered throughout. I actually think this may be another of my favourites just because of how fluorescent it looks! Although I say this and I'm looking at it on my laptop and it doesn't look bright at all.... The difference between screens eh?! Formula and application was lovely and it is shown here in two coats.

'Tiger Eye' is a pale bronze-gold shade and I suppose this would be the one to pick if you wanted something a bit more neutral. The formula for this was also on the thinner side but still applied well. Shown below in two coats.

'Red Jasper' is a beautiful cherry red that I can definitely see being used at Christmas! The opacity for this was really good as it was almost opaque in just the one coat. Formula was also fab as it was lovely and smooth and applied really well. Shown here in two coats.

Last but not least we have 'Purple Agate', a gorgeous rich plum with a whole world of colours inside it seems! I actually found this one too thin as I got a bit of flooding around my cuticles. Thankfully it was easily sorted with a bit of acetone and a clean up brush but just something to be wary of. It's still one of my favourites though! Shown below in two coats.

So there we have it, seven amazing new polishes! Admittedly I've never tried a texture polish before so I don't have have anything to compare these to but I have to say, I am really impressed! I think the colours are great and the overall finish is so pretty. If you're not a fan of the texture look you could obviously add a topcoat. One other cool thing I'd almost forgotten...the shade names were chosen by Superdrug customers!

These beauties are available here from Barry M (featuring my swatches on their actual website eek!!) and they are also available in Superdrug as of today! Priced at £3.99 they are a real bargain as always!

Keep a look out for my next post featuring some of their other new polishes. You don't want to miss out!

  3. I have three which I got for Christmas - the White Moonstone, Tiger Eye, and Coral Sunstone and I am totally in love with them. Tempted by your swatches here to maybe try the Red Jasper, but get the feeling it might be too much of a pinky red if I do try it because reds seem to love being pinky looking on me.
I really love just how sparkly they are even though they are also kind of matte. The texture isn't great (kinda like sandpaper and I fiddle with my nails quite a bit running my fingers over them a lot)for me, but they do still look quite sparkly and dimensional with a nice thick layer or two of top coat on them. I love the look without, but it just makes my fingers too sore to keep them uncoated, plus they tangle/catch in my stupidly fine hair without a top coat on. lol

The Tiger Eye one looks absolutely fantastic with a layer or two of Gold Dust by Wikkid Polish on top (a super fine holographic topcoat which has gold holographic particles rather than silver & gives a warmer tone. Can also recommend their Bronze Dust which is as the name implies). The tiny bits of holo settle into the facets of the textured polish meaning that from some angles you get the sparkle of the textured polish, from other angles you get little bursts of holographic colours. I tried it as an experiment when I'd already had the polish on for a week and whilst it was a different look it didn't ruin the dimensions the texture adds so I was quite pleased with how it turned out. I'm currently trying to work out if I should put any on top of the Coral Sunstone I've just put on or leave it like this for a bit. It sparkles so nicely as it is, but I am also a total fiend for holographic stuff.... I even did a small test swatch and that didn't help me decide. I like both looks!
